Dialog and save system added for v0.2.0 release!

If you like V-Hunter Puzzler Dx so far please follow me here on itch, on Twitter, or on Mastodon!

The levels remain the same but I added some features to help make it a more complete experience, plus work towards the future.

The most notable change will be the added dialog using Dialogic. An amazing Godot addon that was incredibly easy to implement. I think it really adds some personality to the game!

The next big change is the save system. There’s a continue button on the main menu where you can pick up from where you left off (the game saves at the start of each level). When you beat the Saga, the stats of your run (total turns and total deaths) are also recorded, something that will be relevant in the full release.

This release still has the original 15 levels, which will eventually be packaged into a Saga. Sagas are what I’m calling a collection of levels. The final game is planned to have 5 sagas, each introducing new enemies, new items, and new environments. The eventual leaderboard system will be organized via Sagas as well, ranking the players who use the least moves and die the least times highest (potential for a time record as well!).

Background work has been completed on incorporating a Saga system, but it’s not visible to the player yet. Hopefully by the next update!

Finally, there were some small updates such as a small delay before the death popup appears (so V-Hunters demise isn’t obscured!) and the blood splat appearing over enemies due to improper z index.

Overall, I’m happy with the progress and feel like V-Hunter Puzzler Dx is making swift progress. Crazy to think this game is just over two weeks old!

tl;dr

  • Save system implemented
  • Saga system implemented
  • Dialogic added with dialog
  • Delay before death popup appears
  • Fix lingering footstep particle fx error
  • Blood splat and enemy z-index fixed
